Day 3: Tuesday, April 25

At Sea

We hit somewhat rougher seas about 5:30, but that didn't stop us from sleeping in a little. We stayed in bed until almost 8:30, then got up and headed to the Lido for breakfast. Grabbed the laptop and spent some time in the Explorations Cafe writing and sending emails. Jill had noticed on the daily guide that this was Bloody Mary day, so we headed to the Ocean Bar. On the way, ran in to Mom, who was trying to find us to tell Jill that the lecture on emeralds had been canceled. We knew that, and had left a note on our door in case she came looking for us. The three of us settled in on the bar stools at the Ocean Bar for some Bloody Mary's. Mom struck up a conversation with the couple who came in a bit later and set next to her. Then Dad found us, figuring that if he checked all the bars he would run in to us eventually.

Jill and I bugged out at that point, deciding to try the pool on the aft Navigation deck. With high winds that day, the pool sloshed around a lot. That plus the fact that it's a salt-water pool (filtered from the very waters we were sailing through) made it very much like being at the beach in Cancun, without all the annoying sand. Spent a good bit of time in the "surf pool" as we called it (officially it's the Sea View pool, but you can't see the sea while you're in it), and then Mom and Dad joined us. Eventually though, it was time to get out. We had worked up an appetite for lunch by then, so showered and changed into clean clothes and met for lunch in the Lido about 1:20.

Napped after that, and generally did very little of anything for the rest of the afternoon, aside from a few updates to pictures and the trip journal on the computer.

Didn't hit the Crow's Nest that day, as we had reservations in the Pinnacle Grill, the "alternative" restaurant on the ship. The menu features steak and Pacific Northwest seafood, and the setting is a bit more formal. Our reservations for the grill were at 7:00 but we got a call about 6:30 from Mom, saying they had us down for Wednesday night instead. No problem, as they had a table open, and we enjoyed a leisurely dinner. Unfortunately, the combination of high seas and a big lunch meant that we couldn't enjoy both dinner and dessert, so we promised ourselves that for the next dinner at the grill we'd come hungry.

Typical for us, we called it a night when dinner was over. After all, we had an early wake up call for the next morning.
